The founder of the business, Emil Ludwig Hermann Bauermeister, started this Hamburg based business in 1882 as a supplier of grain mills. Even back then, investments in innovative developments were a major part of company policy. In 1900, Bauermeister applied for world-wide patents on their equipment and the first plant went into full scale serial production. Early 1900s also marked the expansion of the business into the processing of cocoa beans, cocoa powder and chocolate with specialized equipment and complete facilities.
In 1945, after reconstructing the factory, destroyed during World War II, the business consistently and successfully expanded. Adding Universal mills, sugar mills, corrugated roll crushers and flakers to the line of equipment and expanding their market share all over the world. In 1949 Bauermeister entered the market in the United States by supplying processors of food products, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, personal care products and others with quality size reduction equipment, as well as the oil seed processors who purchased Bauermeister roll crushers and flakers in ever increasing numbers. As early as 1976, more than 50% of the oil seed harvested world-wide was going through Bauermeister equipment and it continued to grow.
Since 1985, Bauermeister has belonged to the Probat group of companies. The philosophies of engineering, manufacturing and service of Probat and Bauermeister complement one another, an advantage that customers experience in actual practice on a daily basis.
